This 1949 Oregon license plate is mounted on a '41 Indian motorcycle at the "America on the Move" exhibit in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC.

This is the largest exhibit the Smithsonian has ever had, and has been five years in the making. It's scheduled to run a minimum of 25 years.

I had the opportunity of restoring this plate thanks to Alan and Steve, longtime ALPCA members, when the museum folks contacted the license plate club requesting certain tags for certain years to be used in their display. It just so happened this '49 Oregon plate needed some work, and I feel fortunate to have played a small part in this exhibit.

I took the pictures below on Dec. 20, 2003, a month after the exhibit opened, and I highly recommend visiting the museum should you be in the Washington DC area. The "America on the Move" exhibit is awesome.
